My Attempt at a Political Post

I knew I needed to watch the President's address to Congress last night and thought, maybe I could act like one of those fancy, intellectual commentators.

Hmmm ...

Here are my thoughts and observations as I post live:

* The long clapping and hollering: Who claps that long for anyone? Seriously. I don't think I could clap that long ... not even for Aerosmith, but maybe for Bon Jovi. Then, he was announced again by Pelosi and more insane clapping and hollering ensued. Come on. Get on with it.

* I'm wondering if Nancy Pelosi has had a facelift or eye lift. I mean, the woman is 69 years old.

* Oh, goodness, here it goes ... up, down, up, down. This thing is going to last an hour due to all of the standing up and sitting down. Dear Lord, after every sentence now ... sit down already and let the man talk.

* Wait, did you just say the economy is better than it was before?

* John Dingle. I bet he was picked on as a kid.

* Biden and Pelosi are distracting me. I keep thinking of random thoughts of what they might be thinking as Obama's talking. I really want Nancy Pelosi to just stick a big wad of gum in her mouth or Biden to pick his nose or something.

* I don't want to pay for those who don't want to pay for even the lowest-cost insurance because they don't see it as important.

* "Significant details to be ironed out" ... seriously? So, we're making a decision with this statement as part of its explanation.

* Hmmm ... not everyone standing now when talking about senior citizens, illegal aliens, and abortions.

* Major scary interruption. I'm still just wondering who said that. Did he just scream out "that's a lie"? (Found out it was Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina ... brave man)

* Could Congress be more divided?

* This might be more entertaining if Joe Biden explained how we were going to get the money for this health care plan.

* Did he just dog out Bush and blame everything about our economy on the war?

* Finally, the Republicans get to stand. It's almost like Obama's giving them just a little something just to shut them up with this malpractice reform. Now, he can say he used everyone's ideas, Democrat and Republican.

* Seriously, what are they holding up in their hands? What are those papers? (Just found out the papers are copies of all the Republican bills for health care reform, being held up in protest)

* Oh, wait, he said he's going to call those reps out if they misrepresent this plan. Owned.

* I knew Ted Kennedy would come up.

* So, it's a "moral" issue. Are you serious? So, same-sex marriage and abortion are not? Now, all of a sudden, we're going to claim the health care issue as a "moral" issue?

* Is Nancy Pelosi going to cry? Is Biden about to cry?

* Hillary's in a nice red suit tonight. Ah ... Hillary ... I must share my favorite Hillary moment:

(Insert cat hiss and screech)

Now for Charles Boustany, my very own Representative.

He did alright. Kind of nervous and with no live audience to respond always makes the responses seem dull. But, I did like the idea of being able to go out of state to shop for health insurance. Interesting.

Your thoughts?

Oh girl...do NOT get me started on Obama and his insanity. And all those that adore and idolize him. I do not need to expound. I suspect you and I share quite similar political views. Oh, that "moral issue".....WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!

Your recap was hilarious....it makes me want to go back and watch it (couldn't we had youth group)...
Senator Wilson is a brave man. My overall thoughts on the thing, having formerly worked in healthcare, is that they need to go back to the drawing board.
This is as partisan as it gets, and they're trying to ram it down our throats while they have senate majority. Not cool.
My biggest frustration is that they try to make anyone opposed to it look like they're fanatical right-wingests...not what they are....concerned citizens.
Where is our government that is 'for the people & by the people'?!?
Sorry...exiting soap box ;)

I could hardly watch it. Your commentary is perfect. I wish you would have been in the lower left hand corner of my TV screen commenting as I watched... This would have made it much more bearable.

I should add... Glenn Beck would be so in love with you right now! :)

Oh my word...I need a pack of diapers please, because your commentary was pee-your-pants funny...I can't even start talking about my thoughts on this issue because it would make for an obnoxiously long comment.

When all else fails, blame everything on the war and the previous administration, right?

Ay Yi Yi.....

I like your "Cliff Notes" better than watching. Actually, I don't even watch these things. I just get the downlow from hunky hubby.

I often feel like smacking Nancy Pelosi. (ooooooh did I say that aloud)

Um
OOPS!

Yea, if I responded it would be super long and nobody would stand or clap for me. It's a mess and I find it hard to believe that so many people think they are entitled to have me and my husband (and millions of others) work their butts off so they can have health insurance. My husband went to school, works hard and found an employer willing to compensate him in many ways, including health insurance. Why should the guy down the road who wants to be a freelance photographer expect the same kind of coverage when he hasn't worked for it? It's capitalism. Ugh. This is a hot topic with me. Besides their plan would be a weak and failing form for all people. They think people are getting left behind now - just wait. And right - a 'moral' issue. Stop eating your 10 fast food super-sized meals and sitting on your butt all day watching cable - and expect someone else to pay your doctor bill because you chose not to take care of your physical body. See, I should shut up now. Liked your post. Oh, and the Hillary clip :o)

Loved your commentary! So much better than watching it - which I did not do....figured I would hear everything at work today anyway!

Like many who have already commented...it makes me furious that people always are wanting something for nothing! We have given handouts for far too long and for those out there pushing for this healthcare plan. YOU PAY FOR IT!!!!

Funny how this little tidbit doesn't ever come up. Did you know that Obama would like to start taxing flexible spending accounts? Those accounts are specific for medical purposes. Money is taken out of your paycheck before taxes to help you pay for any medical needs. What is the point of taxing those accounts if you are trying to help people with their healthcare???!!!

stepping off soapbox and heading to work so that I can help to pay for everyone's healthcare....

You crack me up!

I couldn't even stand to WATCH the speech or LISTEN to it, I'm so disgusted. You're a better woman than I am!

Next we'll see you on Fox News!

heh heh heh.
I went to the store last night, conviently at 7PM. I can't handle his pontificating.
I'm gonna write "health care reform" on my Toilet paper and then wipe my butt with it. That's what I think of it as being a "moral" issue.
Lady you are funny.
You want to know something...we in MN have what's called MN care. Where the wellfare people get free coverage. My sister, a single mom of three got a boobjob on our dime. She went through counseling and claimed for her "metal wellness" she needed it done.
If you are wondering, I don't talk to her anymore. We don't agree on how to live our lives. I can ONLY imagine what will happen to this country if this things passes.

Funny!
I think it has to do with age - they have to keep on standing up/sitting down to keep the circulation going and make sure everyone stays awake!

Although, as a European I have a really hard time trying to understand why people are so up-in-arms about the heath reforms. I always assume that the taxes I pay, go to pay for programmes that I benefit from! I've never been to a private doctor, I've always used our National Health service; but then I've never claimed unemployment benefit. I've never had a house fire, but I'm still happy to pay taxes that fund the fire service.
Not that I think our government is perfect, far from it! But I do believe that we're all six bad decisions away from the street, and I honestly believe that the person my taxes save may one day be me!

On the other hand, I have spoken to people who feel deeply that freedoms that they now have may be lost.
The sad thing is that I think the whole situation is so politicised, and there is so much money in the insurance system, that a proper debate seems to be impossible in the current climate.
Sigh.

Didn't watch it. Pelosi jumping up and down like she's sitting on a porcupine makes me want to barf. I'll get the details later from Mr. O'Reilly. :)

Your commentary is just perfect. I was reliving the smoke and mirrors exactly like it was last night!

Sheesh.

I am surprised you didn't say anything about how many times Pelosi blinked. CON.STANT. Doesn't that say something about her subconscience activity? Hmmmmmm.....

I didn't watch it either but I'm sure reading your recap was much more interesting anyway. Not to mention more entertaining. I can't even comprehend being a supporter of such madness. And he was doing another speech this morning about 10:30. What is that about? He didn't get it all in last night?

Daiquiri said...

Hilarious! I was distracted by Mo and Schmo in the background too. The way Pelosi's jaw dropped when "that's a lie" was shouted...made my day!

Seriously - you need your own show. Maybe a live video of your responses next time? ;-)

OMG, I laughed so hard reading this b/c I said some of the exact same things. Sit down already. Geez. I was kinda hoping though to see one of the Repubs picking his nose or making a face, not Joe Biden but either would have been happy. I asked my husband no less than 4 times what those papers were. Did you see Obama kiss Hillary? LOL

I didn't watch it either, but your recap makes me want to go back and see it. Hop over to my blog for a healthcare story that happened to a member of my family, someone who currently is in "the system".
