Yes, I have a death wish.

As recently stated, I am starting P90X in a week in a half.

So, that I can go from this:
To this:
Did I mention this transformation is supposed to happen in 90 days?

Yeah ... we'll see about that.

Then, to punish myself even more, I'm thinking about running this half-marathon with that crazy girl, Lois Lane, in February in New Orleans.

I can think of a million reasons NOT to run this marathon, but not very many FOR running the marathon.

The main reason NOT to run it is because, at the present time, I can only run 3 miles and then I'm done. The thought of going any further is beyond my comprehension.

Other reasons for NOT include:
* Not enough time to train
* Will already be doing another workout program
* Not fond of enduring extra pain
* It's hot as the dickens down here.
* The inability to breathe
* The feeling that my heart may possibly pop out of my chest
* The aching legs
* The fact that it will be cold in February ... again breathing problem
* My knee that I'm not supposed to be running on  ... with the whole "deteriorating knee cap," "torn meniscus," "loose gristle," "arthritis," etc., etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. Whatever.

Reasons TO run:
* The challenge & sense of accomplishment
* Better health and physical fitness

Um ... that's about it on that one.

So, usually when the cons outweigh the pros, you shouldn't do it, right?

Oh, just tell me what I want to hear, people. And, if you want to join in my torture, February in New Orleans, email me or let me know in your comment.

(Lois, you don't count. You know I'll probably do it anyway.)

And, for those of you concerned about my mouth ulcer ...

Prepare yourself.

Here I am thinking about whether or not I should show you this thing.
What the heck ... this picture does not do it justice. It was way grosser.
Turns out it's not an ulcer, but some type of enlarged saliva gland ... looks like a blister, filled with fluid that needs to be drained or popped. Disgusting.

Guess who's on pins and needles (pun intended), ready to practice his novice medical skills?

Scary.

OOhhh....half mary...scary.(haha)
I can only run 3 miles myself...still feeling like that's major being I've only been able to do it for 2 weeks now. I hope to be at 5 miles by the new year...
Good luck with the P90X...I have heard its tough and my friend has a friend who lost 40 lbs on it...in the 90 days. So...

Hey Daphne,
I think it's awesome that you're going to run the half marathon in February!! I've run that race 3 times. The whole twice and the half once. It's a nice flat course!! If I can get my hip to heal (long story) I may go and do it.
Running is the easiest way to get weight off and KEEP it off. And the miles do get easier. I've done 5 full marathons and right now, and can't imagine running 13 miles much less 26.2. But, as you train, you just build on the miles and before you know, you're doing it. It's an indescribable feeling!!!!
GOOD LUCK.

It would be cool for you to run. However, if your doctor says no, you shouldn't do it. You're someone's mom! You'd be mad if your child...had braces and ate taffy anyway and broke a brace and it's painful and expensive to fix. Imagine how much more a knee would take to fix! So my vote on running is no. Sorry.

P90X? That looks insane! i really hope it works for you. You'll be able to say "I will crush you" and people will run:)

An your mouth ulcer? Super gross. It's way awesome that you took a picture and posted it on your blog:)

Yea, the cons are outweighing - and rightly so - the pros. I'd run if I were you. I like a challenge and that's when I do my best. The heat - that's another thing. I live in the 5280 Mile High in Colorado, so I'm not use to having air to breath. Hot air to boot would confuse me :o)

Your mouth makes me hurt. Ouch. I'd say let the mad scientist do his thing to get rid of that because it looks PAINFUL!

And I'll tell you like I told Lois: I'll be waiting for you guys at the finish line with some boiled shrimp. :)

And um, WHAT exactly is wrong with the top pic? Just curious. Because that would be my "after" pic if I started the PX90.

Or P90X. See, I can't even get the name right. Whatev.

I love that your list NOT to do it is longer then your list TO do it. We like to do that to ourselves.
I think your mouth sore is your body trying to rebel but as you said (admitted) you probably will do it anyway and here's why:
You are tough, you accept a challenge and in the end you share with the rest of us what good came from it, even if you kicked and cried a little along the way.
So get out there and kick some XP90 or whatever it is' butt and then run like made and show us your ribbon, cause I'll be here cheering and clapping for you!

Are your running shoes on the piano? You gripe at me when I leave my shoes by the closet door!

Hypocrite...

I agree with Kora. Your arms look great! With that kind of tone already I bet you will get there in 90 days!

I keep telling myself I will do a 1/2 Mary someday and then never start the running..... I bet if I ever got in good enough shape to do it my hubby would fly me to New Orleans.... Huummmm....

And I agree with Kora -- your arm/shoulders look like they don't need much work to me!

I am running the MG half in February. This will be my first halfer. I have done some 5k's and 1 10k but this 1/2 is going to be a challenge. If you are already running 3 miles, you DO have the time to train--it's 6 months away. You have to be extrememly consistent though. My trainer set me up on a great program if you want to share ideas. also P90X is good stuff. I do crossfit, which is very similar here in Lafayette with a trainer and I can tell you that the results are amazing but you will work your tale off for them. I currenly feel like my abs were hit by a speeding 18 wheeler. Can't wait to see your progress! I have been doing cxfit for about 3 weeks and am already down 7 pounds..awesome stuff!
