The Reason Home Depot and I are Friends

For the last three years, I've been living with this old thing.
This baby is old. The man who lived in this house before us built this house in his younger days and this was his refrigerator. He was 85 when we bought the house from him three years ago. This refrigerator was fashionable in the '70s. I mean, do they even sell almond-colored appliances anymore? I think not.

A new refrigerator was one of those things that we said we would purchase when we remodeled our home, but ran out of money before we could do it. You know what I'm talking about. And the refrigerator still worked, so we waited.

I've had major refrigerator envy.

And I've waited.

Then, I listed the reasons why we needed a refrigerator:

#1 It's almond-colored, while all our other appliances are stainless steel and black.

#2 The water filter hose to the ice-maker had a leak a few months ago ... a pin-size hole that leaked for days, which we didn't realize until it had ruined our floor. Now, we need a new floor.

#3 The freezer side fits about six bags of frozen vegetables, one box of popsicles, and one box of waffles. Everything else goes in our deep-freezer in the garage.

#4 It has stains on it that I just can't get off.

#5 Last week, the second produce drawer broke.
#6 It has a very temperamental ice-maker that will leave you hangin', waiting for ice or send about 20 pieces with one push.

#7 Last night, the ice-maker quit working. To which Beau said that he thought it was finally time. Then, this morning, he said that if the ice-maker didn't work, that would be confirmation that we needed a new refrigerator. Do you know that darn ice-maker worked?

#8 It's embarrassing, hence the reason for all the pictures and magnets on it.

#9 Home Depot is offering 10% off all appliances ... 12 months, no interest,  no payment. Let's face it ... it ain't gonna get any better than that. That is confirmation to me!

So, without further ado ... I present my new refrigerator that will be delivered Tuesday.
What do you think about the door where you can just grab the milk or juice? I think I like it. I'm just nervous about it breaking when La Petite Belle tries to use it as a step-ladder to look in the candy basket at the top of the refrigerator. I'll have to move that. The Home Depot guy says he's never heard of one breaking and it can hold 50 lbs., which I hope it would never have to.

At least you didn't get one for a Valentine's gift. Hubs bought me a new fridge about 3yrs ago and then proceeded to tell everyone that is what he got me. Truth be told, I didn't like the idea at first but I did like all of the space the new fridge had! You are gonna love the door!

That is most beautiful contraption I've ever seen. I had no idea they had invented milk doors!!! GENIUS!

Very cool! I love the idea of a milk door so it stays a more consistent temp in there. We drink a LOT of milk.

Secondly, I can't believe you're wearing shorts. That blows my mind right now. My kids just came in from outside to tell me they saw snow flurries! Which is almost as big a deal here as it would be where you live. :-)

now I have refrigerator envy!!!!! That milk door is awesome!!!

I must go work on my list of reasons why I need a new frig.....seeing as mine is only 2 years old, it may not work!

The new frig is great, but I am especially jealous that you are wearing shorts! It is snowing here in TN. Brrrr!

Ooohhh! I love the new fridge. I have to say though, that the fact that you're in SHORTS in January caught my attention and I find myself wondering if a house in the Bayou would be great in the winter. ;)

I like it! If I had known you wanted a new fridge I would have sent some vibes your way. We have yet to own a fridge that lasts longer than 7 years. The one we have now has already blown a compressor at the ripe old age of 2! My next one will be stainless. Can you believe our microwave was on its last leg and then started working again like the first day we go it?! Gggggrrrrrr :}

Are you wearing shorts today?? No fair!

I love your fridge!
That beverage door is cool-we're always opening the fridge for water or juice. I bet it will save you some serious money off your electric bill.

I will have to say, I looked at your shorts before the fridge!

After having a near death experience while my Jeep slid through the snow down the hill on the way home, I was a tad jealous!

Don't get me wrong, love the fridge, some what ill over the shorts weather you are enjoying!

So all it takes is a new fridge to make you love The Depot. We are expecting snow in the morning. Hury it won't last long.

Yep, your shorts were the first thing I noticed! I'm in GA and it snowed here today! You looked very cute, I must say!

Love the fridge! I am very excited for you - we women like our appliances!

Congratulations on your new ice box. I know you've got to be excited. I got a knew one 5 years ago and it still excites me! Of course I'd had my old one for 26 years so you can imagine. I love the milk door. Mine doesn't have that but it does have the ice and water dispenser. Love that. I'm happy for you.

You know, I didn't blink at the old refrigerator, but I sat and stared and wondered at your shorts. It's just NOT fair! It keeps snowing here.

I love the new fridge. Congrats! You're gonna love it.

That is so cool!!! I would love one like that one day.

And, I too immediately saw you in shorts and made a smart remark about you being in the south and how it really stinks and how I'm freezing my butt off..but, you're in shorts :-)

Ok I right along with everyone else about being amazed that you have shorts on in January. Sorry. But hey, I do love your new frige. I am all about stainless steel and what a great extra bonus with the door for milk and juice without having to open the big one. I bet you can't wait until its delivered today either. Isn't it fun to get new things? Its a rarity around here so when it does happen we all get extremely giddy.

We have an old fridge that was left by the old man that lived in our house. But ours has the door too - and I love it - but I call mine the Wine door. Is that bad?

Tammy said...

My last house had an almond fridge as well as matching appliances! Ick.

Love the stainless, which is what all of our appliances are now. The fingerprint smudge factor is a bit higher though! ;-)

Love the new fridge! :) And thanks for the info on LaCHIP. I'm going to go google it right now.

Ok NOW I have refridgerator envy!!
AND weather envy!
(That's just sick...shorts?)
Ok, so in my minds eye I'm looking at this picture and thinking yeah, she's showing us the fridgr she got over the summer! SHorts and January just do not compute in this head!!! :)

It's okay. Hubby had on shorts yesterday, too, lol.

NICE fridge! When I was a kid, my mom finally got a new fridge, and she was soooo excited. My dad and uncle hooked it in the back (cause they were cool and all and could deliver it themselves...), and as they were driving down Main Street, the fridge fell out of the back of the truck. My mom just sat there, fuming, as my dad and uncle looked at each other and ran out, tossed the fridge back in the back of the truck, and then looked around to make sure no one was looking. None of them said a WORD. The fridge had a dent in it and made noise for the next 10 years, but it still worked, lol!!!

Wendi @ Every Day Miracles said...

Ohhhh! It is awesome! Congratulations! I love getting new appliances. I could so see La Patite Belle climbin' on there though... :) MMMM, candy basket. I wonder if ours has any thing left in it?
Any way, yeah it was below zero degrees here all week, so you can take your cute short wearin' self and just - um - enjoy your better weather. I never did learn how to talk smack.

Oh girl. We got a new fridge 2 years ago. Your old fridge made mine look gooood. It was my little white thing from when I was single with the handle broken off. It was sexy.

I ended up searching high and low for one and spent a LOT on it. The next day I was seized by guilt (I COULD have gotten one for a few hundred cheaper) and called my friend Jenny.

She was awesome. She said, you are a stay at home mom. This is your JOB. You NEED good appliances. Buying a fridge for you is like a business man buying a computer - when it is your JOB, you don't buy crap.

Can you see why she is one of my best friends?

I still get fridge envy tho. I wanted the stainless LOOK, not real stainless, so that limited me to like 1-2 choices at each store. Your little drawer is so cool.

But mine does this, and it still makes me really happy:

This whole comment was such a phone call. I should have called you and we could have discussed new fridges for an hour.

Husbands do not do that.

Love the fridge! And you look cute in the shorts! :) No shorts envy here over in Houston. Yea, it's a bit chilly today, but I know that will probably change tomorrow and the hot weather will be here soon enough. :) Gotta love the south!

My parents had a fridge just like that with the Milk door. Everyone LOVED it! It worked great for many years. I know you all are lovin' it.

Now I'm thinking it's time for our new fridge. :) Although, ours works just fine and has for the past 9 years. I am grateful and will be patient.
