Canned meat ... not for the faint of heart.

I just want to know ... how does one become an "expert canned meat chef"?

As opposed to the "amateur canned meat chef"?

What happens to the cans of meat that the "amateur canned meat chef" prepares?

I just hope I didn't get one of those cans. Yes, I had to buy some, which totally grosses me out.

No, I did not buy Spam or Vienna Sausage, just the chicken spread stuff with the devil on it. Deviled chicken?

Anyway, I did get to the grocery store and picked up some canned goods to store up in case we lose electricity. The same year Katrina hit, we had Hurricane Rita, which was way more damaging for us. We had no electricity for three days. It was incredibly hot with no air conditioning and we actually got all of our meat out of our freezer and grilled it, instead of it just letting it go to waste.

So, I'm preparing to eat mostly junk, if we do lose electricity ... Cheez-Its, Funyuns, Cheetos, Oatmeal Creme Pies, Pop Tarts ... lots of peanut butter, bread, and crackers ... and what about the meat? Glad you asked. With the deviled chicken, I bought cans of chili, ravioli, and spaghetti-o's.

My kids are in heaven, especially since I bought this bread. I never buy white bread. This is the best I've ever tasted. You know the kind that gets stuck in your teeth when you bite into it. So delicious. I figured I might as well go all out. If I have to brave a hurricane, I'm gonna enjoy what I'm eating. I can feel guilty about it after the hurricane is over.

I'll keep you posted.

Let's pray that you get to donate that canned meat to a food pantry after this hurricane is over. My dad actually loves the "deviled Ham". All of that really grosses me out. Praying for you girl! Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Ptooey. I say toss the canned meat and stick to all the other yummy stuff you mentioned. Especially the Funyuns which have been a favorite of mine for MANY years. Sounds like you need a stash of Little Debbie yummies too! :-)

Praying for safety!

I just wanted you to know I am praying for you, Jodie, and the others who may be standing in the path. I pray the Lord grants peace in your storm, if it must come.

Oh, I hope you don't have to break into any of your emergency stash. Especially the canned meat.

I have a cousin who makes Spam for Hormel. He says they can't make enough to keep it on the shelves. Sales are going through the roof. Why? I wonder. He swears it's because people are finally discovering how good it is. I'm thinking a bad economy and hurricanes make more sense...

Be safe.
