Did anyone see Oprah today? Check it out here. The show was about parents who pay for their children to have gastric lap band surgery. One mom went down to Mexico to have the surgery done because no doctors in the states would do it. Shouldn't that be a clue that it's not OK? I couldn't believe that parents would actually do this and it seemed to be acceptable to some people. Why not help your child lose weight the old-fashioned way ... diet and exercise, even get professional help if you have to? What is this teaching the child? What does this do to their self-esteem? Does it teach them that their worth is in their weight and their looks? Maybe, I just don't understand. But I hope that if this were ever to be an issue for me that I would do anything possible to train my child how to eat and live healthy and not put them at risk through surgery in a foreign country. Any opinions?
